Introduction to the Department:
This department annually hires foreign experts to teach oral English, Western media and culture, and the history of America and Britain. The inclusion in the department’s faculty of foreign instructors provides students with as added advantage; an exposure to Western teaching methods and style. In addition, native English speakers provide students with as expanded vocabulary and improved pronunciation. The department is located in a multifunctional independent Foreign Language Building which contains multi-media classrooms, language laboratories, person-computer dialogue rooms and self-served learning centers. This department not only emphasizes the training of basic language skills, but also stresses the cultivation of practical abilities so as to foster practical-style foreign language students with solid language skills, higher comprehensive quality as well as a broaden horizon.

English Language & Literature (Undergraduate)
Freshmen and sophomores are to take the courses including comprehensive English, oral English and listening comprehension, translation (oral and written), writing. They will learn the language and culture with the aid of high-tech equipment including but not limited to multi-media and self-serving English learning center. Juniors and seniors are to take courses including British and American literature and culture. On this stage, they are to improved their comprehensive language ability, literature appreciation and writing skills. They are expected to broaden their outlook and abilities so as to become quality undergraduates with proficient English communication capacity.
Practical English (Specialist)
Students of this major are to take courses such as oral English, listening comprehension and oral interpretation and are required to acquire strong communicating ability in English. Meanwhile, they are expected to be trained in the fields of foreign affairs and trade, tourism by taking courses such as business and tourism English, and international business negotiation techniques.
