Following the educational objectives of “learning to be yourself, learning to learn, learning major, learning English and learning computer”, the Department of Economics aims at building up its own advantages by bringing up individuals with practical ability and an innovation spirit to meet the social needs.
The Department of Economics stresses on cultivating students’ ability of operation. It has designed a series of courses with practical operational characteristics, and established some professional economic laboratories for international trade practices and business negotiations, financial practices, securities investment, international investment and quantitative study. It has been conducting economic simulation experimental teaching. The department recruits domestic and foreign experts, scholars, and entrepreneurs to teach or give lectures and sponsors foreign teachers for business oral English. It also established some teaching practice and training bases in a number of Chinese coastal cities like Shenzhen, Guangzhou, and Shanghai. It carries out a job-hunting principle of “combining self-choice with recommendation”, and the annual employment rate of this department is higher than 90 percent.

Introduction to the Majors:
International Economy and Trade (Undergraduate)
Students of this major will master the basic theories and skills of international economy and trade and be familiar with its development, as well as the generally accepted international rules and conventions. They are trained to conduct international economic and trade business with skilled English and computer techniques and be competent for the positions in the relative governmental institutions and theoretic research or educational institutions.
Finance (Undergraduate)
This major nurtures versatile individuals who are armed with basic theories of finance, currency, banking, security investment, and insurance, as well as the basic operational skills of financial businesses. Students of this major are expected to have a full understanding of the developments of domestic and foreign financial industry, and the relative guidelines, policies and regulations of China, as well as the regulations of international financial business in the World Trade Organization (WTO). They are capable of conducting financial businesses with skilled English and computer techniques, and secure employment in the institutions or organizations of domestic or foreign banks, security investment firms, insurance, finance, or related educational or research institutions.
International Economy and Trade (Specialist)
Students are required to have a good foundation of basic theories, knowledge and skills of international economics and trade; they are to be trained as practical-style special talents who works in relative governmental and trade management institutions, foreign economy and trade enterprises, third capital enterprises, and cross-national enterprises.
Customs Declaration and International Freight (Specialist)
Students are expected to attain the basic knowledge and skills of international economy and trade, the rules and procedures of international freight shipping, and the operational skills of conducting customs declaration. They are to be competent for the jobs or posts in the institutions or companies involved with, trade and logistic units, third capital enterprises, multinational corporations, as well as the institutions of customs declaration and international freight.
International Finance (Specialist)
The students will acquire the theories of finance, currency, banking, international finance, security investment and stock market. They should have the ability to conduct international financial transactions; be familiar with the international financial rules and China’s own guidelines, policies and regulations, as well as the rules for international financial affairs in WTO. They are expected to be capable of conducting international financial businesses with skilled English and computer techniques and have careers in the institutions or enterprises such as foreign or domestic banks, security institutions, investment, insurance, supervision, regulation institutions, or the financial departments of various enterprises.
Investment and Financial Management (Specialist)
This major aims to prepare individuals with a solid foundation in investment and financial management. Students are required to master the basic knowledge of currency, banking, international finance, security investment, and insurance. They are to acquire the basic skills of conducting financial business, be familiar with China’s financial guidelines, policies and regulations, as well as the international financial rules in WTO. They will conduct financial businesses in English and computer techniques and find positions in the institutions or enterprises of banking, security, insurance, investment and financial management.
